Martin Lewis's advice on whether to switch energy suppliers

As you've probably heard by now, the energy price cap is going up today. That means the amount we pay for our energy will go up - unless you're already on a fixed deal.

The cap is going from £1,277 to £1,971. That's a rise of 54 per cent, which will hit consumers hard.

In response, the government is handing out council tax rebates of £150 this month. You'll also get £200 off your energy bill in October, though you'll have to pay this back in instalments over the next five years.
