Martin Lewis has put many people's minds at ease after revealing the exact cost of running Christmas lights this winter.
Due to the current cost of living crisis, many in the UK have been concerned about their festive decorations piling more money on their already expensive bills.
But the money saving expert, who appeared on Good Morning Britain alongside Susanna Reid to present his weekly financial advice segment, has been able to ease some of the pressure.
Chronicle Live reports that Martin had good news for viewers, as he said: "As long as you’ve got LED lights, a string of 100, which is a pretty decent amount, if you were to have them on for six hours a day for the month, it would cost you around 18 pence."
He confirmed that this is the cost for the whole month, not per hour. He also warned that filament bulbs are more expensive, as this figure was based on LED lights. The finance expert also urged families to not keep their lights on all day when they're not needed. “Just in the evening when you’re there [at home], so you can keep that element of Christmas going,” he added.
It comes after consumer champions Which? tested several different Christmas lights to find out the cost of each. It was discovered that running your Christmas lights for six hours a day is actually cheaper than most household appliances, with festive lights costing an average of 0.9p per day.
They also found that white lights and multicoloured lights are essentially the same price to run - any differences depend on the brand and setting instead.
The cheapest setting Which? found was “twinkling-flashing", which would cost around 20p to run for the full festive period, six hours a day from 1 December to 31 January. The most expensive settings were “on” and “sequential”, which both cost 56p to run six hours per day over a two-month period.
