A cheap alternative to the central heating is something many are searching for as the cost of living crisis continues and energy bills remain at an all time high.
And in a bid to help, Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has recommended a gadget that costs just pennies to run, reports the Mirror. With the freezing temperatures hitting the UK this month, this simple product could save people hundreds of pounds a year.
Speaking on the latest Martin Lewis podcast, the expert offered the option of a seven pence solution to everyone's issues. By making a small investment in the gadget, people can save money every day.

Martin has suggested that households should invest in a dehumidifier, as the amount of kilowatt's per hour it uses is "generally far, far cheaper" than putting the heating on. He explained that so long as you factor in the cost of a dehumidifier in the first place, having the item will guarantee lower electricity bills for many.
The financial guru explained on the podcast: "Many dehumidifiers have different wattages, the one I checked out was 200 watts (w).
“Once we know it’s 200w and we know a kilowatt (kw) is 1,000w, which is how electricity tends to be priced, we know this is a fifth of a kilowatt.
"And you pay roughly 34p per kw per hour. A fifth is 7p so you’re going to pay roughly 7p per hour to run a dehumidifier at 200w assuming it uses full power the whole time. Which is generally far, far cheaper than putting the heating on.
“If a dehumidifier does work for you it will definitely have lower electricity bills but of course you do have the initial capital outlay of buying a dehumidifier and see how that works for you.”
One such dehumidifier that won't set you back hundreds is the Argos Challenge 0.5 Litre Mini Dehumidifier - which has received hundreds of positive reviews from shoppers.
One happy customer wrote: "I use this in a 3x4m bedroom and it picks up a lot of water. There is no mould now, as I had a little problem prior to the use of this item.
"I use it for a couple of hours each day and it doesn't seem to use a lot of electricity. Very easy to set up and use, empties very easily and is very quiet."
Another said: "I purchased this dehumidifier back in December and it works a treat! I keep it on all the time and it extracts about a cup of water every 24hours
"It’s very quiet and makes only a gentle humming noise which is like a white noise helping me fall asleep too! Very happy with this product!"
And a third wrote: "I bought this month ago and worked well for my room I don't have humidity issue anymore quite happy with purchase."
One added: "Does the job. Very small and compact. Quiet. Happy overall."
