Travelling abroad can be stressful for many and when travel plans fall though - it only adds to the stress.

The flyer, known only as Helen, shared her experience with flight compensation with Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert website.

She said it only took five minutes to complete the form she needed to claim her money.

Helen said: "I got £440 in compensation for cancelled Easyjet flights using your tool, and it only took five minutes to complete the form. Thanks Martin."

MoneySavingExpert explain that customers can claim money back from 2016 if they their flights have been delayed or cancelled and urge readers to use their free reclaim tool.

Martin Lewis also adds that customers are often entitled to £110 and £520 in compensation if they have experience delays or cancellations.

Hundreds of flights are being cancelled due to staffing issues and covid related issues on top of a surge in customers, with the likes of easyJet and British Airways flights being most affected.

If your flight is cancelled, you are entitled to a refund and replacement flight to get your to your destination.

Citizen Advice also add: "If you’re part-way through a journey and you don’t want a replacement flight, you also have a right to a flight back to the airport you originally departed from.

"Ask for a refund or replacement at the airport if you can. If not, you can claim from the airline later.

"You also have a legal right to:

  • Help with costs - If the cancellation delays you two or more hours.
  • Compensation - If you’d be delayed two or more hours by the replacement flight offered and you were given less than two weeks' notice."

To get compensation on top your refund, the original flight must be cancelled by the airline within 14 days you were meant to take off. The length of the journey and the time difference between the alternative flight and the original flight will be taken in consideration.

Here is how it breaks down, with the hours being a reference to the time difference of your alternative flight versus your original booking.

For flights cancelled seven to 14 days before departure:

  • Flight length 0 to 1,500km - leaves two or more hours before, lands up to two hours after - €125 (£110)
