Martin Lewis explains why he can't continue presenting Good Morning Britain

Martin Lewis has responded to Good Morning Britain viewers who begged for him to be made a permanent host on the show. It comes after the consumer champion presented alongside Susanna Reid on Monday and Tuesday of this week, standing in for Richard Madeley.

The financial guru's presenting stint on the show impressed viewers, especially when it came to his knowledge and approach to the current cost of living crisis. So much so that many of them called to make Martin a permanent presenter on the ITV news show.

But Martin has shared some bad news. The Money Saving Expert founder has ruled out a permanent role on GMB and explained to his 1.3 million Twitter followers why it wouldn't be possible.

He said: "Many kind comments about me doing @GMB more permanently. Sadly the workload & hours mean its not compatible with my day job, so I can't do more.

"Shame, as I enjoy the challenge. Yet being the Money Saving Expert is m'calling & where I think I've most impact. I can't risk that."

Martin was quickly flooded with comments, with one writing: "You have done a wonderful job and it's been perfect timing with you being on @GMB during this time as your knowledge of the pressures faced doesn't allow for guest to flub their way through interviews."

Another added: "@MartinSLewis is doing brilliant work! That's a real shame you can't commit more to it as you and the wonderful Susanna make a fantastic team. Well done to you both."

While a third commented: "It's understandable but such a shame. You've made such a difference to what is already an excellent programme."

While Martin has finished his guest presenting, he has confirmed he will return to GMB on Wednesday, March 30 for a cost of living special. For more showbiz and television stories, get our newsletter here.
