Martin Lewis explains how to get your hands on a free Greggs

Martin Lewis has revealed just how you could get your hands on a free meal or two - and it really takes very little effort. By cleverly making use of apps and offers from common food outlets, such as Greggs, members of the public can get their hands, quite literally, on a free lunch.

Explaining on Tuesday's episode of the Martin Lewis Money Show, Martin, who has recently been deemed a national treasure for his work during the ongoing cost of living crisis, talked viewers through everything from mortgage advice, energy bills, support packages, and everyone's favourite - free food.

With food prices rising as a result of inflation, many people are already struggling to feed themselves and their families. Food bank usage has been reported at an all time high, and, by keeping track of the deals offered on fast food and restaurant apps, a free meal might only be a click away.

Some of the current free food offers include a free bake or sausage roll and hot drink at Greggs when someone signs up to the Greggs app - this includes the vegan alternatives. The app has also offered free pizza or doughnuts in the past, reports Money Saving Expert.

Until Sunday, Martin also explained that Pizza Express were offering 2for1 on dining in via the app. Both this and the Greggs offer require the user to download and sign in to the app, and activate the offer on their phone.

New and existing users on the Burger King loyalty program can get a free cheeseburger or fries through the app - activating the free 200 points through the app which equates to around £2 worth to spend in most stores. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Waitrose is reinstating its free daily hot drink for loyalty members (sign up is free) when they make a purchase in-store.

This offer will be back in force from November 7.

New sign-ups on the Krispy Kreme and Taco Bell apps can also get free food, and Money Saving Expert added that some apps - McDonalds and Subway, for example - often offer discounts and free menu items throughout the year for app users.

Anyone unafraid of leftovers can nab a seriously reduced bargain with the Too Good To Go app, or Olio, both of which seek to reduce food waste while saving you money.
