Martin Lewis says people who are not automatically eligible for the council tax rebate can apply to their local council for a discretionary £150. The Money Saving Expert shared his advice on Good Morning Britain as energy bills are expected to rise drastically from tomorrow (April 1.)
The latest figures show that over 10,000 Bristolians could miss out on the Government's £150 Council Tax rebate. The Council Tax Rebate is a one-off payment of £150 due to be made to eligible households to help them tackle the cost of living crisis. It is designed to help households on lower incomes, which are likely to be disproportionately affected by the rising cost of living and could well have to spend more of their income on utility bills.
Around a third of all properties in Bristol eligible will automatically miss out because they don't pay their council tax bill by Direct Debit. However, it is expected that around 80 per cent of those will apply for the rebate, leaving just over 10,000 losing out.
