Martin Lewis confirms GMB break in moving ITV message

Martin Lewis reduced viewers to tears as he confirmed he'll be taking a lengthy break from Good Morning Britain.

The Money Saving Expert founder is usually seen co-hosting the show with Susanna Reid. He became part of the show's roster of male hosts taking on the main gig following Piers Morgan's exit in March 2021.

However, in recent months Martin has not only been hosting the show but also taking part in 'Money Mondays' as he answered viewers questions and offered his important advice amid the cost of living crisis. During Wednesday's edition of the ITV newS programme, on December 14, Martin appeared in the main seat alongside Kate Garraway where he again offered viewers' advice and co-hosted the show, MEN reports.

But just as the latest instalment came to an end, the 50-year-old confirmed it would be his last stint for a while.

He said: "This is my last programme before Christmas. I won’t be back until March because I’ve got my show coming on in the New Year." He then looked into the camera to deliver a heartfelt yet sombre message.

He said: "Can I just wish everybody a very Merry Christmas, a very Happy New Year, and, especially after a Million Minutes, to those of you who will be going through grief and loneliness this Christmas, may you have more smiles than you are expecting, may you have more joy than you’re expecting.

"And if not, I just hope you get through it and you get through it easily."

Kate then turned to him, grabbed his hand, and thanked him for what he has done.

She said: "And can I just say, thank you to you. You've really helped a lot of people this year as you always do and we wish you a Merry Christmas as well as I'm sure Lorraine does too."

And the message left GMB viewers feeling quite emotional. @casscurl tweeted: "I swear @MartinSLewis moves me to tears every time I see him. Such a lovely human being. #gmb."

Martin later took to Twitter to confirm the news of his extended break from GMB.

He tweeted: "That's it for me on this year, and prob last time presenting until March (as my shows back in Jan). I hope you found it useful or interesting." And his followers were quick to respond.

@chrisashton33 replied: "The only reason I ever watch @GMB is when Martin Lewis co-presents. See you again in march then."

@CatrionaClarke said: "Thank you for everything you do, I hope you're able to have a lovely break over the festive season!"

@AmandaMarple24 shared: "I think you’re a National Treasure Martin - have a lovely Christmas break."
