Martin Dubravka has spoken of his pride at becoming the first Slovakian to represent Manchester United in a competitive match. The on-loan goalkeeper from Newcastle United made his debut in the Carabao Cup victory over Aston Villa last month, and the 33-year-old captained the Red Devils in the recent friendly defeat at Cadiz.
Dubravka spent four seasons at St James' Park after joining on an initial loan deal from Sparta Prague in 2018. The shot-stopper made 130 appearances before leaving on loan for Manchester United, having lost his starting spot to summer signing Nick Pope.
The Red Devils hold an option to make the deal permanent, although Dubravka had to wait patiently for his first chance to impress. The loanee could keep his place for the fourth-round clash with Burnley, and has revealed his delight at making history at his new club.

He told the club's website: “It is a big deal. When I signed, I got so many calls, so many messages, which were difficult for me to answer because obviously I just want to be focused on my job, but I’m glad I could make history.
“To be the first Slovakian to represent my country at Manchester United, is a big thing for me.”
It was Dubravka's first experience of Old Trafford as a home player, having made his Magpies debut against the Red Devils in a memorable 1-0 home win for Rafa Benitez's side. The Slovakia international has reflected on this 'different perspective', and has thanked fans for their 'brilliant' support.
Dubravka added: “I’ve played at Old Trafford before as an away player, so I always knew what to expect but obviously you represent this club now and you realise the fans from a different perspective. I really enjoyed that and I’m glad we could give something back, as they’ve been brilliant.”
