Martin Brundle clarifies he wasn't stealing from fan's handbag in grid walk mix up

Formula 1 fans were treated to some "peak Martin Brundle grid walk content" ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix.

The popular segment on Sky Sports F1 has become legendary among fans of the sport. It usually lasts around 20 minutes and sees former racer and current pundit Brundle walk up and down the grid trying to chat to drivers and celebrities to get their views on the race.

But, as it often the case with live TV, it doesn't always go to plan. Just last weekend, at the United States Grand Prix, there was an awkward moment when Brundle tried to speak to Hollywood megastar Brad Pitt, who will feature in a new movie about F1, but was shut down by the actor.

This week everyone he tried to speak to was more than happy to stop. One woman even came up to Brundle to speak to him voluntarily, and to chat about that incident with Pitt.

"I just loved how you chased Brad Pitt last week," declared the beaming woman. "It's nice to meet you, I love you!" Brundle thanked her for her words, found out her name was Amelia, and later referred to her as his "number one fan".

And shortly after there was another moment that got fans talking. As he tried to squeeze through the crowd to speak to musician Will.I.Am, a cable got caught up. "I've got my microphone caught up on this ladies' handbag," he said, just as the woman turned around puzzled.

Another woman came up to Brundle to tell him she loves him (Sky Sports F1)

Brundle then apologised, before telling the surprised woman: "Sorry, I wasn't stealing anything out of your handbag – it was my microphone cable." The woman then laughed and then replied: "I'm so sorry!"

Naturally, fans flocked to social media to discuss what they had seen. One fan joked: "Martin Brundle goes from a woman chatting him up to mugging a woman's handbag in the space of 30 seconds. The grid walk is pure chaos AND I LOVE IT."

Another declared Brundle "is the comedy of the F1 weekend on his grid walks". And a third even went as far as to assert: "Martin Brundle's grid walk is the highlight of every F1 race."
