Martin Boyle in Hibs hat-trick boots teaser ahead of Hampden showdown

Martin Boyle is usually the man for the big occasion in Hibernian's squad.

Somewhat of a talisman, the Australia international knows where the goal is and so often plays a big part in any success for the Easter Road club.

Just two years ago the winger scored a hat-trick in the semi-finals of the League Cup at Hampden. On that cold afternoon in Glasgow's south side, Hibs knocked Rangers out of the competition thanks to Boyle's first-half treble.

Scott Arfield pulled one back for the then managerless Rangers, but it was Jack Ross' side who stepped up on the big occasion and booked their place in the final, where they would meet Celtic.

Boyle was electric that night, needing just 38 minutes to complete his hat-trick and steal the show at the national stadium. Rangers' defenders couldn't cope with the attacker as he ran riot.

The 29-year-old donned a pair of yellow Nike Mercurial boots that evening.

And it seems he's ready to shine in the brightly-coloured boots once more as Hibs prepare to face Aberdeen for a spot in the 2023 Viaplay Cup final tomorrow.

Posting on social media today, Boyle shared a photo of the same boots in the Hibs dressing room. He teased: "Good time to blow the cobwebs off."

If Boyle can recreate his stunning form from that night two years ago the travelling Hibees faithful will be delighted.

Meanwhile, Dylan Levitt hopes he has done enough to earn a starting place for Hibs' semi-final against the Dons after recovering from the ankle issue that disrupted his early months at Easter Road.

The midfielder joined Hibs from Dundee United in the summer but he was sidelined for almost two months with an injury sustained in the second leg of the Europa Conference League qualifying victory over Luzern in August.

After three substitute appearances against Hearts, Rangers and Celtic in October, Levitt made his first start since that match in Switzerland when he was restored to the engine room for Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at home to Ross County.
