Melbourne Renegades paceman David Moody has lasted just one legal delivery before being banished from the attack for dangerous bowling in his team's BBL clash with the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium.
The Scorchers posted a dominant 5-212 on the back of strong contributions from Cameron Bancroft (95no off 50 balls) and Stephen Eskinazi (54 off 29 balls).
Perth's four-over Power Play of 0-62 was the best of any team this season, with the Renegades made to pay dearly for their wayward start with the ball.
Moody was the biggest culprit, with his spell lasting just one legal delivery.
The 27-year-old struck Bancroft in the upper ribs with a wild 143.8km/h full toss early in the second over of the match.
Bancroft was hurt in the incident but was still able to scamper through for a single before taking time to recover from the hit.
A wide came next ball, before Moody unleashed yet another full toss above waist height when Eskinazi was attempting a scoop shot.
The second beamer meant Moody was not allowed to continue bowling under the laws of the game, forcing captain Aaron Finch into a bowling reshuffle.
Spinning all-rounder Matthew Critchley helped fill the void, finishing with 2-34 from his four overs.
"It surprised me a fair bit," Bancroft said of the Moody delivery that struck him.
"You don't expect that. I felt really bad for Moods. He's a really good guy. No hard feelings."
Finch said Moody was "devastated".
"But he'll bounce back," Finch told Channel 7.
"No one means to bowl balls like that or drop catches or anything."
Eskinazi set the tone with six fours and three sixes.
But it was Bancroft who became the dominant figure, with his knock featuring five fours and three sixes.
Bancroft needed two sixes off the final two balls to bring up his century, but he could only managed a four and a three to finish five runs shy of a ton.
A rare highlight for the Renegades was a stunning outfield catch by Will Sutherland to dismiss Nick Hobson in the 17th over.
Sutherland ran back with the flight of the ball before taking a spectacular one-handed catch above his head while twisting his body in the air.
The ladder-leading Scorchers will seal top spot and hosting rights for next week's "The Qualifier" against the Sydney Sixers if they can beat the fourth-placed Renegades.
A loss would give the second-placed Sixers a chance to leapfrog the Scorchers and earn hosting rights themselves.
Either way, the Scorchers and Sixers will face off next Saturday, with the winner to earn hosting rights for the grand final.
