SRIKAKULAM: Locals suspected foul play after a bad odour came from the neighboring home in Narasannapeta town and informed cops who were shocked after seeing a married woman hanging to the ceiling fan.
After examining the crime scene, cops found that the body was hanging for the past four days. The woman was identified as that of 39-year-old Bammidi Santa Kumari of Srikakulam who is survived by her husband Vijay Kumar, working as an office assistant in the local branch of the commercial tax office.
The incident took place in Srirama Nagar in Narasannapeta town on Tuesday and no one had visited the house to date after the incident. Locals suspected something fishy happened and the bad odour also pushed them to inform the police.
The police forcefully broke open the doors of the house. Santa Kumari had hanged herself on a fan hook in the kitchen room.
The investigating officer sub-inspector Y Simhachalam said that the woman might have hanged herself in the early hours of May 23. She was involved in an argument with her husband Jaya Kumar one day before she committed suicide.
After tussling with his wife, Jaya Kumar left for Sripuramin Nandigaon mandal.
Santa Kumari’s father Chigullapalli Lakshamana Rao lodged a complaint against his son-in-law at the police by alleging that his daughter took the extreme step due to severe harassment by her husband and members of in-laws’ family.
Interestingly, Santa Kumari’s husband Jaya Kumar alleged that she harassed him severely and even beaten him several times.
"She thrashed me many times and I went to my home place on May 22 after she severely harassed me. Very next day, she committed suicide when no one was around," he alleged.
