Married at First Sight UK’s Gemma was 'crushed' after Whitney 'stole' her husband

Married at First Sight UK's Gemma Rose has slammed fellow contestant Whitney Hughes and accused her of stealing her husband Matt Murray.

The 31-year-old salon owner was left “devastated” during Wednesday’s episode of the hit E4 series, after Whitney and Matt revealed they had found a connection with each other. Speaking to MailOnline, Gemma admitted she felt “crushed” after Matt and Whitney’s relationship was exposed in front of the other participants.

Matt, 32, denied he had been unfaithful by claiming his relationship with Gemma had been over for days before his romance with Whitney, 31, who was married to Duke Cavolli. Despite this, Gemma insists that Matt did in fact cheat on her because they were still part of the experiment.

She said: “'I was devastated. My feelings were crushed because he knew that I believed until we leave the experiment that we’re still married, and you don’t do that… you treat each other with some level of respect until we part ways.”

She went on to condemn Whitney as a girl with “no code” and unlike any woman she has met before. She continued: “I definitely wouldn’t say we were friends but within the experiment there was supposed to be a certain level of respect for each other.

“They went off with each other a day before the commitment ceremony – if their relationship was genuine why wouldn’t they wait until we left? I'm a girls’ girl and believe women should stick together.”

Earlier this week, Matt and Whitney admitted their feelings for one another and said they wanted to “swap” partners before spending the night together, despite both still being married. Drama unfolded when their fling was revealed during one of the show’s dinner parties, as Gemma was shocked and embarrassed to learn the rest of the cast already knew that a new romance had blossomed behind her back.

Matt and Whitney were later accused of making a “mockery” of the series, but have since been allowed to continue the experiment together by the show’s three relationship experts. Reflecting on the series, Gemma said: “I only gave them an hours’ worth of footage because I left the dinner party.

“It hit me a lot more the next day but when I got home, I felt a wave of relief. I have always been a massive fan of Married at First Sight and respected the process.

“When I watched it people were genuinely going for it. I wanted to be part of that.

“I didn’t once think the other people on the show would be on it for fame – but I was wrong.”

Mum-of-two Gemma also revealed she had booked extra time off work so she could take a trip to Las Vegas to legalise her marriage, as she was under the impression she would be coupled with her perfect match and soulmate. She said: “Matt was told by producers ‘this is a TV show, this is for drama, you are going to be entered into an experiment, it isn't a real marriage’.

“They sold it to me as ‘you both want marriage, this is a trial, when you leave this experiment, you can get married’. I booked extra time off thinking we would both be going straight to Vegas!”

Married at First Sight UK airs at 9pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday on E4.
