A popular couple from the 2021 series of Married at First Sight UK have confirmed their break up after two years together. Matt and Dan, who were the first gay couple on the show, found love and overcame difficulties in their marriage like their age difference and living in two totally different parts of the UK.
The pair have now confirmed the split and say they are "better as friends". Posting a lengthy statement to both their Instagrams, they said: "As you all know, we have been on an incredible adventure together the last two years and we have given ourselves every opportunity to make things work as a couple, but over the last few months we have realised that we are actually better as friends."
They added: "Break ups are never easy, even when amicable, but we can’t thank you enough for your support and kindness following our journey together. There’s nothing but love and good energy between us, and we feel very lucky to have found each other in our lives. Just sadly not as a couple! And although we are parting ways, we will always continue to support one another."

Their fellow 2021 Married at First Sight brides and grooms sent messages of support in the comments. Welsh groom Luke said: "Love you guys, all the love from me" and bride Marilyse said: "Guys… I’m so sorry to hear this today. You are both incredible individuals and you will lead wonderful lives now as friends. With the best memories to treasure. I love you both so much."
Matt and Dan survived the 2021 series and made it to final vows where they re-committed to each other. Matt then moved from his home of Leeds to live with and join Dan in Northern Ireland. Before the split, the pair had spoken about getting married and going travelling together.
