Minnesota Vikings assistant strength and conditioning coach Marquis Johnson was spotted leading the bench press drills with the tight ends group at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday.
Johnson is spotting the weight, while also serving as the greatest hype man you’ll ever see at an NFL Combine event. As fatigue starts to set in and the prospect on the bench begins to struggle, the Vikings’ coach was cheering him on and challenging him to push past the obvious point of exhaustion.
“Keep going, keep going. Come on! There you go. There you go! Another one. I need another one! I got your back! I got your back,” Johnson yells in the video, via Minnesota sportscaster Paul Allen.

It’s obvious why Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell ultimately decided to keep the strength and conditioning crew intact.
Johnson’s energy being matched by the other prospects in the room is the best part of the entire video.
The best coaches are the ones capable of pushing you beyond the tough mental blocks, and Minnesota clearly has that with Johnson, Josh Hingst and Derik Keyes.
