This play could have gone better for Joey Wendle and Bryan De La Cruz.
On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Phillies were playing host to the Miami Marlins, with the home team looking to continue their recent 9-1 hot streak. The Marlins, however, put themselves in an unfortunate hole early on after this incredibly avoidable blunder cost them a run.
On a routine pop up from Alec Bohm in the bottom of the first, Wendle ran from his post at second base all the way into the outfield to give chase. Unfortunately, Wendle collided with De La Cruz as the ball fell to the earth, causing both players to miss the catch as Bohm trotted to second.

One batter later, J.T. Realmuto brought Bohm home with a double, giving the Phillies an early 1-0 lead.

The worst part? Had either Wendle or De La Cruz caught that ball, the inning would have been over! Just an unfortunate mishap and a lack of fundamentals there that cost the Marlins a run.
