Marks and Spencer has left some shoppers seriously divided after launching a new condiment with an unusual flavour combination. Earlier this week, the supermarket revealed their new ‘world-first’ salt and vinegar mayo, which costs just £1.75.
Shoppers were quick to join the debate on the M&S social media channels, with over 11,000 people reacting to posts announcing the news within the first 24 hours.
Said to have all the best flavours of a chippy tea in one handy squeezy bottle, some fans have described it as a ‘game-changer’. But others think it’s ‘pretty gross’.

From fish and chips to chicken nuggets, pizza crusts and even potato salad, some M&S shoppers have been pondering all the ways this new sauce could be used in their next meal, with one commenting “Oh my god going to buy immediately”.
“This could be a game changer,” said another, while a third wrote: “This feels like an excuse for fish and chips to me!”.
But not everyone was convinced though, with one commenter adding: “Am I the only one who thinks this sounds pretty gross?” while others said “Yuck!” and “My worst nightmare!”
Sarah-Jane Large, Lead Product Developer for sauces and condiments at M&S, said: “What’s your favourite thing to have on piping hot chips? Salt? Vinegar? Mayonnaise?... Well how about ALL THREE!! We had a feeling shoppers would love this saucy new launch but we had no idea it would be so divisive!
“It’s the perfect condiment to have in the fridge for your next chippy tea, but I also love it on burgers, hot dogs, salads – everything really! It’s the ideal thing to have on hand for all your summer barbecues and picnics.”
If this new salt and vinegar mayo sounds like the ultimate sauce for you, you can find it in your nearest M&S store for just £1.75.
