Mark Noble reveals David Moyes' transfer strategy at West Ham in glowing verdict of Hammers boss

Mark Noble has revealed what David Moyes has told him about West Ham's recruitment strategy as the transfer window draws to a close without any incomings at the London Stadium.

West Ham had bids rejected for Leeds Untied pair Kalvin Philipps and Raphina earlier in the transfer window and were blocked in their attempts to bring Jesse Lingard back to the club on transfer deadline day.

The Hammers were linked with a number of other players such as Duje Caleta-Car and Darwin Nunez but were not able to get any deals over the line and Noble has explained the manager's strategy when it comes to transfer dealings.

"I am pretty close with the manager so we talk about players coming in and out and what he has said from day one is he is 'not going to bring players in for the sake of it.' He wants to improve the team and improve the squad and if you can't get the right player in he isn't going to bring a player in that is a waste of money," Noble told Vibe with FIVE.

West Ham are on the verge of ending their third transfer window without strengthening in attack and Noble gave an indication of why the manager has been so careful with his spending.

"We have done that in the past [spent big money], I am not saying [the] players were a waste of money but it has not quite worked, they have not been the right character or the right player for the football club. The players the manager has brought it, you have seen that work and they have gelled with the squad so I think if it does not work out and we stick with the players that we have and reinforce in the summer."

Noble clearly trusts his manager with the captain full of praise for Moyes' record in the transfer market since his December 2019 return to West Ham.

"Our signings have been really good, and we have been lucky enough to have Dec [Rice] come through the academy and hit form like he has done which has been phenomenal," Noble added.

"Jarrod Bowen coming in, he has been fantastic for us, there were questions about him when he first came from Hull City about whether he could do it in the Premier League and I think he has proven [he can] now to everyone and I still think he can go further on and get better. I say we got lucky, but we signed two really good players in the Czech boys who are strong, athletic, and perfect for what David Moyes wants.

"He knows how to set up a team to keep clean sheets and counter-attack and with the likes of Jarrod and Michail [Antonio], [Pablo] Fornals and Said [Benrahma] the players we have got we are perfect for that and sometimes it works, you get a flow and it really works and it has been a fantastic couple of season under him."

West Ham's inability to add an attacker to their squad leaves Michail Antonio as the only senior striker at the club and Noble explained why this was the case.

"He is one of the most improved players I have ever come across and his record is second to none. For us in the Premier League he has been phenomenal and with the injuries as well to get back from them and keep on playing he has been fantastic," Noble said.

"For us over the last three or four years we have not been able to, well we can't replace him because to go and get another Mic you are going to have to spend a lot, a lot of money and you are not even guaranteed [success]. We brought big Seb [Haller] in and tried to go a different way but you could not take Mic out of the team because he was too good."
