Mark Labbett apologises for behaviour on The Chase as his 'mental health was shot'

Mark Labbett took to social media to apologise to 'disappointed' fans for his behaviour on The Chase after the quizzer stormed off the show.

Mark, also known as The Beast, stormed off the show after being defeated in the final chase on the ITV show as the contestants bagged a whopping £21,000 win.

Host Bradley Walsh congratulated all four winners, and asked The Beast what he had to say after suffering the defeat with just seconds left on the clock.

After congratulating the winners, Mark then said “I’m off”, before storming off and punching part of the set.

“I apologise to any kids watching, that is not how you should take defeat,” Bradley told viewers.

Mark took to Twitter last night to apologise for his behaviour on the show as his "mental health was shot" at the time the episode was filmed.

He wrote: "Apologies to those of you disappointed with my behaviour tonight. My mental health was shot before that game, it was storm off or break down in tears. A remorseless diet of quality opponents didn’t help #thechase."

Fellow Chaser Paul Sinha replied: "You should never have to apologise for the crime of "being human". I'd have been nowhere on those questions."

Fans responded to the quiz-master, wishing him well after admitting he was struggling at the time.

One said: "My daughter & I assumed it was a bit of theatre, so the only disappointment is hearing that you were struggling at the time. Everyone is allowed a bad day, & I will be showing your post to my 13yo tonight so she knows it's OK to be frustrated sometimes, too."

Another responded: "Don’t apologise. I had a shit week where I broke down in tears in front of my bullying neighbours after I offered to pay for a worn fence. I was angry with myself then realised they still showed no remorse or empathy for upsetting me so much. GOOD people feel emotions. Big hug."

A third wrote: "You do not need to apologise for being a human and experiencing emotions. For my entire 24 years of life, that's all I've done - and it doesn't make it any better, it just makes you feel more guilty. Thank you for acknowledging it, but don't apologise."

"No need to apologise Mark, you played well and did your very best answering what was some nasty questions on #thechase. Nice that you congratulated the players and showed great sportsmanship," said another.

A fifth penned: "Chin up Mark we all hav times Wen our heads aren't in the right space & u may Bea celeb but ur only human & tbh ur mental health comes b4 any game show just put urself 1st 4 a while sending love & healing x"

Someone else reassured: "Hey. These things happen. What’s great is that you have totally owned that behaviour. I really hope your mental health is better now. Remember that you are not alone. Always here if you want to talk. We got ya Beastie Boy. X"

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV at 5pm.
