Mark Hudson to hold crunch talks with Cardiff City board next week and confirms they are 'not looking at anyone else'

Mark Hudson is set to hold crunch talks with Cardiff City's board next week over his position as manager and confirmed the club are not looking for any other candidates.

It has been almost seven weeks since the Bluebirds decided to part ways with Steve Morison, with the club stating it was considering options for the position. However, there has been radio silence since then, with nothing to suggest Cardiff were interviewing external candidates for the vacant post.

While fans have rightly been a little irked at being kept in the dark, Hudson said more concrete information should be given next week, with a meeting pencilled in with the hierarchy before the World Cup break.

"We have had conversations. I can only say that what I've been told is that they are not looking at anyone else, I think that says something," he said.

"Having the licence to go and bring in a coach (Dean Whitehead) is a positive thing. We have just got so many games thick and fast. I am meeting the board and the owners next week, so that will be good."

Asked if he expected to be handed the job until the end of the season, Hudson replied: "Well, I hope so! I want to be here as long as I can.

"But we have got a big game at Sunderland and the focus should be on what we can achieve in that game."

The fans have been kept in the dark for weeks now over the managerial situation, with many wanting the club's top brass to at least make the situation clear either way. You can read more about that here .

And Hudson understands that frustration and believes that when the situation is resolved, it will help both the club and the fans move forward.

"Speaking about the fans, I understand exactly what they are asking and what they want to know," he added.

"In any walk of life you want to have clarity and want to know where you are heading. Hopefully that's what we can give them sooner rather than later.

"It helps people in their working environment and it helps the fans supporting us going forward. But our focus is fully on the game. I understand the fans want to know, but we are giving everything to get those results."

First, though, there is the small matter of Sunderland away this weekend. The Bluebirds fly up to the north east on Friday afternoon ahead of an important encounter at the Stadium of Light, wanting to bounce back from a narrow defeat by Watford in midweek.

"It's a tough place to go. They have been getting 40,000 (fans), which will be an experience for the players!" Hudson said of Sunderland.

"It's the third game in a week. We have prepared as well as we can. We have spoken about Sunderland yesterday, today, maybe a bit tonight as well, to put ourselves in a good place to get a result.

"They are a good side. They have got individual players who can potentially hurt you. They have got (Alex) Pritchard, (Jack) Clark, (Patrick) Roberts, (Ellis) Simms has come back into the squad as well. We know they are a team that can hurt you. So we will have to be at our best."
