Mark Hudson insists he's still not thinking about his long-term future at Cardiff City Stadium, despite so far enjoying a successful audition for the role.
But he admits the upcoming clash with Swansea City is now on his radar ahead of what could be a crucial couple of weeks.
Hudson was handed the reins at the Cardiff City Stadium on an interim basis following the dismissal of Steve Morison earlier in the season, and has overseen an encouraging upturn in form.
Having held Burnley to a 1-1 draw in the capital, Cardiff have eased to two wins from two, overcoming Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic.
It's a run that has perhaps put the former City skipper in the driving seat to take the job permanently. Indeed, when Morison was dismissed, several sources inside the capital stressed he would be given the chance to impress.
But despite overseeing an impressive unbeaten run that has left Cardiff three points away from the play-offs ahead of Saturday's clash with Coventry City, Hudson is still reluctant to think to much about what the future might hold.
However, it's clear the South Wales derby later this month does appear to already be on his radar.
"I’m focused on what the team can achieve," he said when asked about his current situation. "It’s all I’ll ever do, focus on what we can deliver for them to feel comfortable in going into a game.
"For me, I never look too far ahead, and I’ll continue to say that. I live for the now and it’s important we focus on Coventry, QPR and Swansea coming up. I’m not focused on anything other than delivering what we can for the team.
Asked specifically on whether he'd held any conversations over his long-term future with the club's hierarchy, he added: "We’ve had conversations about how we can get points from games.
"There’s no distractions. We’re focused on our jobs, and that’s the ultimate. The most important thing is that we’re focused on the games and getting the fans behind us, showing them what we’re all about. That’s the main aim for us at the moment."
Hudson has also reiterated his intention not to rush the appointment of a new first team coach to his backroom team, amid rumours linking former Bluebirds favourite Joe Ledley to the role.
"There's been lots of conversations, which is good. It’s important to make the right decision on that.
"It can’t be rushed. It might take a while, it might not. But it has to be right for the place, staff, players and club. It’s not something to take lightly. Those decisions, for me, I’d never take lightly. It’s an important one."
