The character of Thomas King is back in Emmerdale but the eagle-eyed among you will likely have noticed a major difference.
Returning earlier this month, Thomas King hadn’t been seen in the village for over 10 years. When he was last in the village Thomas, son of Carl King, stalked and harassed Carl's ex Chas, after she was thought to have murdered his dad.
He also dated Belle despite their families being against the romance, leading to a plan to run away together. Eventually he changed his mind and left without her and hasn't been seen since.

Since his return, Thomas has begun to get close to Belle again while there’s also a suggestion he might be hiding a sinister secret. That will likely come out in the fullness of time.
We’ll park that for now though as we are going to investigate the recasting of the character. Rising acting star James Chase now plays Thomas King. He has replaced Mark Flanagan and we are going to take a look at what the latter has been up to since leaving Emmerdale.
Early career
Ahead of his role in Emmerdale, Mark Flanagan appeared in Holby City and BBC children’s drama The Story of Tracy Beaker. He also had a part in Jimmy McGovern’s drama series Accused. Mark was then cast in Emmerdale where he played the role of Thomas King for 45 episodes.
Emmerdale exit
As mentioned earlier, following the death of character Carl King, Emmerdale viewers saw Mark’s role in the soap get much deeper. Angered, the young Thomas King became something of a villain, taking aim at Chas Dingle. At the same time, Thomas was enduring a doomed romance with Belle.
This resulted in Thomas nicking a campervan and fleeing the village. It eventually transpired he’d caught a flight to Saudi Arabia to be with his mother.
