Marina Granovskaia priceless Chelsea call signals Leicester plan as FIFA give £22m vindication

Welcome to our football.london CareFree Chelsea daily news round-up.

Maybe not the first. We've definitely done transfer round-ups before and European round-ups, so I guess in some ways, it's not that new at all.

Anyway, we thought we would enter the world of football in a broad and roundabout manner for you and have some fun with some of the stories and captions doing the daily rounds.

Marina Granovskaia makes a priceless call amid Leicester interest that plots a pathway for Thomas Tuchel's plans for next season with hopes of a Trevoh Chalobah repeat.

Meanwhile, Chelsea's £22 hidden gem receives fully deserved recognition alongside Thomas Tuchel in FIFA's 'The Best' awards on Monday night.

Levi Colwill decision made

On Monday,

reported that Chelsea's young defender Levi Colwill would remain on loan at Huddersfield Town for the rest of this season.

The 18-year-old has been majorly impressing in the Championship so far this season. Even with a potential recall this month with Premier League interest from Leicester City, the standout prospect will remain after triggering a clause in the original loan deal after playing enough minutes.

This is a massive boost to Huddersfield for the rest of the season, who currently sit within a point of the play-off spots.

Our Take: This is the logical step for both Chelsea and Colwill, who is excelling in the Championship. The interest from Leicester should raise eyebrows given how young he is but speaks to his steeply growing reputation. The hope should be to see Colwill return in the summer and be given a chance in pre-season by Thomas Tuchel.

Mendy gets FIFA recognition

Chelsea enjoyed a very fruitful evening at

ceremony on Monday evening, with the current European Champions picking up three awards.

Both Thomas Tuchel and Emma Hayes were awarded coaches of the year whilst Edouard Mendy beat out Gianluigi Donnarumma and Manuel Neuer to be named The Best Men's Goalkeeper by FIFA.

Mendy was signed from Rennes for £22m in September 2020.

Our Take: It is par for the course now that both Tuchel and Hayes receive recognition for their coaching work but equally special that Mendy, horrendously snubbed in last month's Ballon d'Or ceremony, should be recognised here. It is a testament to Mendy, who becomes the first African goalkeeper to win the award, an extraordinary player and character to have at Chelsea.

Chelsea Table £33m bid for De Jong

Last Friday, Catalan publication El Nacional reported that Chelsea had bid £33m for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The report goes on to claim that the £33m bid only places Chelsea around £8m short of Barca's asking price, which could make a deal for Marina Granovskaia viable either this window or next.

Our Take: The rumours for De Jong have slightly hit us by surprise, given the consistent clamour for other targets in central midfield. We did write a more in-depth piece on this link today, which you can read and try to theorise how Tuchel could best utilise De Jong, a very technically impressive player. Certainly, a target to take note of and a transfer that could very well pick up speed as we near deadline day.
