Margot Robbie's down-to-earth approach lauded by Wuthering Heights director Emerald Fennell

Margot Robbie has been described as 'exceptional' by Wuthering Heights director Emerald Fennell

Margot Robbie has "absolutely no ego", according to Wuthering Heights director Emerald Fennell.

The 40-year-old filmmaker has worked closely with the Australian superstar on the new adaptation of Emily Bronte's novel and explained how Margot went above and beyond to "look after" the cast and crew working on the movie.

Speaking in a Q+A at the British Film Institute (BFI), Emerald said: "She's a girls' girl.

"She looks after you. She looks after everyone. She is always doing things behind the scenes for people. She is just really an exceptional person."

The Saltburn director added: "She is such a gargantuan star and is such a talented person but she has absolutely no ego.

"We never had to put the breaks on something because she wanted more coverage or she wanted to look a certain way. Never. Not once."

Meanwhile, Margot explained how she felt as though she was "set up for success" by landing a role in the flick opposite Jacob Elordi.

The 35-year-old actress told Extra: "The chemistry between us as Cathy and Heathcliff… We were so set up for success, to be honest.

"Like, we had the most amazing screenplay and we had the most incredible designers designing these shots and these sets and these costumes, and you have Emerald there who's so attuned to what can make someone go and gasp and, you know, it's like we were just given all the ingredients to do something amazing, and all we really needed to do was bring our best as well."

The Barbie star detailed how she felt comfortable shooting intimate scenes with Jacob.

Margot said: "I never felt like I needed to be careful with him and he, I think, he didn't feel like he had to be careful with me.

"I think we quickly got to a place where it's like try anything, do anything. You're not going to, you know, hurt me."

Earlier this year, Margot admitted that she relished the emotional "swings" of Wuthering Heights.

Asked if the film's romantic scenes demanded a different kind of preparation, the A Big Bold Beautiful Journey star told People: "No different to all the other scenes that we do. The movie kind of demands a lot of all of us.

"My character essentially cries in every single scene, but no, it was a joy. I loved playing a character who kind of swings from one wild emotion to the other in an instant."
