Land transfers often outlast the people who make them, and Margaret Minshall's are a good example. She was a retired high school teacher and avid equestrian. In 1971, she gave more than 400 acres of her Oakasis Ranch, near the San Vicente Reservoir, to the County of San Diego. Four years later, in 1975, she transferred another 41.67-acre parcel to California State Parks, strengthening the northeastern edge of Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. Her name lives on in a hiking trail, and her ranch house, destroyed in the 2003 Cedar Wildfire, stood in what is now the Oakoasis Open Space Preserve.
