Celtics guard Marcus Smart was ejected late in the fourth quarter of Saturday night’s victory over the Hawks after dragging Atlanta star Trae Young to the ground on the baseline after a foul call.
The play in question came with 1:25 remaining in regulation with Boston leading 129–121. Young was driving to the basket, with Smart guarding him, when Young inadvertently kicked the Celtics guard in the groin as he went up for a layup.
Smart was called for a foul before the shot attempt, but after taking the hit, Smart took offense and confronted Young on the baseline. As the two exchanged words, Smart and Young locked arms before Smart dragged the Atlanta point guard to the ground.
