Marcus Rashford must heed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's "moaning" advice under Erik ten Hag

Marcus Rashford will be looking to put last season behind him as soon as possible, from both a club and individual perspective.

Manchester United finished sixth and ended the campaign with the lowest points tally of their illustrious Premier League history. Rashford contributed a feeble four league goals across 25 appearances in a term that was wounded from the start as the 24-year-old missed the opening exchanges while recovering from surgery on an injured shoulder.

The United forward was also having to contend with the demons of Euro 2020, where England reached the final only to once again lose on penalties with Rashford one of three stars to miss his spot-kick.

Whereas Bukayo Saka, another member of the unfortunate trio, seemed to use that anguish to spur him on and have his best season in senior football to date - Rashford had contrasting fortunes. His tally of four marked his worst league return since his United debut back in 2016.

Prior to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dismissal in November after a notably torrid run of results, the Norwegian is rumoured to have told Rashford to "stop moaning" over whereabouts he was deployed on the pitch positionally, as per the Daily Mail.

Bursting onto the scene as a left-winger, Rashford was utilised both through the middle and on the right at times last term - to minimal success. He was part of a misfiring United forward line that was far too reliant on Cristiano Ronaldo to score the goals.

If Rashford is to put himself in the best possible stead for a better season next term, he will have to show far more willingness to play where incoming boss Erik ten Hag tells him to. The Dutchman does not seem to suffer fools gladly and has already explained how he expects maximum effort as a bare minimum.

Ten Hag is also rumoured to be utilising Rashford in a more central role than he is traditionally used to - something United expect their forward to bulk up for if his social media activity is anything to go by.

Rashford took to Instagram to upload a short clip of him working out alongside the caption: "3 sessions in and feeling good after an amazing break with amazing people." He looked fighting fit as he aims to be ready and raring by the time the opening day of next season rolls around.

United legend Gary Neville is optimistic over Rashford's fortunes under the new manager, claiming: "I think Ten Hag will look at Rashford and think he’s a project I can work with.

"I think Ten Hag will look at him and think he’s quick, he runs, if I can give him some coaching I think I can work with him."
