Marcus Rashford has been disciplined internally by Erik ten Hag after the Manchester United forward reported ill for training on Friday after allegedly being out partying in Belfast on Thursday into the early hours.
United released a statement on Monday night saying the incident “has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter” as a report in the Sun claimed the England player had been out drinking on Thursday before getting a private jet back to Manchester early in the morning and missing training.
He was subsequently omitted from Sunday’s 4-2 FA Cup victory at Newport County. Rashford and his agent and brother, Dwaine Maynard, were photographed driving into the club’s Carrington training base for discussions with Ten Hag.
The United statement released on Monday night said: “Marcus has taken responsibility for his actions. This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed.”
Whether he has been fined or faced other action is unclear. United say Rashford is available for Thursday’s Premier League game at Wolves.
Ten Hag has moved to close down the matter quickly after his disagreement with Jadon Sancho in September about the latter’s exclusion from the loss at Arsenal led to the forward not playing under the manager again before his loan move to Borussia Dortmund this month.
Rashford reported ill for United’s training session at Carrington on Friday hours after images emerged that showed him apparently out at a nightclub in Northern Ireland’s capital. The Sun’s report claims the United star was drinking before eventually going to bed just before 3am.
Rashford travelled to Northern Ireland on Wednesday to visit a former United youth teammate Ro-Shaun Williams, who has signed for the domestic champions, Larne.
