Marcos Alonso has sent a goodbye message to fans after he completed a free transfer to Barcelona following an agreement to terminate his Chelsea contract.
The Spanish defender spent six years at Stamford Bridge, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, Europa League, Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in that time. football.london understands the Blues were willing to let Alonso leave the club this summer, with the return of Ben Chilwell and signing of Marc Cucurella pushing the 31-year-old further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
Barcelona were interested in signing Chelsea club captain Cesar Azpilicueta as well as Alonso this summer, but the former signed a contract extension and ended speculation surrounding his future. The Spanish left-back fell out with Chelsea legend Frank Lampard after being brought off at half time of a 3-3 draw against West Bromwich Albion and it wasn't until Thomas Tuchel took charge that he was brought back into the fold.
