Marco Silva to consider taking Aleksandr MItrovic off Fulham penalty duty after Newcastle nightmare

Marco Silva will consider taking Fulham penalty duties away from Aleksandar Mitrovic after his third miss of the season against Newcastle on Sunday.

Mitrovic had a second-half spot-kick disallowed at St James’ Park when he slipped and kicked the ball onto his standing foot on its way into the net.

The miss proved costly as Newcastle scored an 89th-minute winner through Alexander Isak to deny Fulham what would have been a deserved point.

Mitrovic has scored 11 Premier League goals this season but Fulham will hold discussions over whether the Serb continues to be their first-choice penalty taker.

“We have time to talk and decide what we have to decide,” said Silva. “What we are going to decide will be for me to decide. If Mitro keeps going, he will keep going. If not, it will be another [player] and we have enough good takers in our squad.”

Silva was furious with the officials for failing to send off Newcastle defender Dan Burn and award Fulham a penalty for what he felt was a foul on Andreas Pereira.

The Fulham manager was booked for protesting after the final whistle, as the Cottagers saw their five-game winning run ended.

“It is a clear penalty, red card for the player and the game would be completely different," said Silva, whose side remain sixth in the table. “We were very unlucky this afternoon.”
