Newcastle United are back into the top three after a hard-fought win over Fulham at St James' Park. The Magpies left it late to steal all three points as Alexander Isak came off the bench to find the net in the 89th minute.
Aleksandar Mitrovic thought he had put Fulham ahead from the penalty spot in the second-half but slipped when taking the spot-kick, subsequently kicking the ball twice to see it disallowed.
Here are the moments you may have missed from the gritty Newcastle win.
Marco Silva fumes
Fulham boss Marco Silva was left fuming at referee Rob Jones' performance despite his side being awarded a controversial penalty in the second-half. The away side were given a spot-kick after Bobby Reid and Kieran Trippier collided on the very edge of the area.
However, Silva believes his side should have been awarded a penalty for a different incident, seconds earlier, when Dan Burn pulled Andreas Pereira to the ground. The Portuguese coach also believes Burn should have seen red for the alleged foul.
Silva was so incensed with the decision, he stormed onto the St James' Park turf at full-time and let Jones know exactly how he felt. After shouting at the officials in the centre circle, the Fulham boss was booked.
“It should be a penalty and red card for the player," Silva said at full-time. "The player pulled Andreas, it’s a clear penalty and red card. It’s a clear mistake from the referee first and the VAR second.
“[If Burn] is sent off we can win, we can lose. But the game will be completely different from that point, it’s clear for all of us.”
Pope booked
In all the commotion of Mitrovic's unlucky penalty, few people realised Nick Pope actually picked up a booking for delaying the spot-kick being taken. The Newcastle shot-stopper was jotted down into the referee's book after holding onto the ball, and even allegedly bringing a second ball onto the pitch, as he tried to play mind games with the Serbian striker.
It clearly worked as Mitrovic hit the deck when taking the penalty, with the ball being struck twice before it beat Pope down the middle. The Newcastle goalkeeper was up on his feet and steaming towards Jones before Mitrovic had even got picked himself off the ground, making sure the officials knew an illegal set piece had been taken.
Familiar face watches on
Richard Masters isn't the most popular of figures on Tyneside but the Premier League chief executive was in attendance at St James' Park on Sunday. Masters watched Newcastle's 1-0 win sat next to Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi as he made his first appearance in the north east since the takeover was given the green light 15 months ago.
Masters was seen as public enemy number one by a section of Newcastle supporters back in the day as the Premier League refused to rubber stamp Mike Ashley's sale of Newcastle, as they sought assurances from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. All of that was seemingly forgotten after the £300m sale was belatedly given the green light in October 2021.
16th-minute clap
If you were watching the Super Sunday clash from the comfort of your home, you may have missed the 16th minute round of applause that filled the St James' Park stands. The gesture was to honour Amy Gadomski, 16, who tragically passed away on Thursday January 5 after contracting Strep A.
Her auntie Rachael Gadomski called upon Newcastle United fans to clap in her memory in the 16th minute as a tribute to the family's loss. Amy, who was studying for her GCSEs at Sacred Heart High School was a season ticket holder and the club "meant everything" to her.
"She loved the atmosphere, she loved the laughs, and she loved the special memories she made with her friends."
