March 2023 game releases: Upcoming titles being released this month

This year is already shaping up to be a big one for video games, with quite a few high-profile releases already out in the first two months, headed by the highly-anticipated and successful Hogwarts Legacy, which came out in February.

March doesn’t show signs of a slowdown, and it’s coming with its fair share of new big-name games. Sports fans are getting the new annual entries of three big sports simulation series, while this month’s highlight will be a remake of one of the best horror games ever made.

An exotic open-world adventure will arrive as a day-one release for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers, while a beloved shapeshifting witch is getting her origin story released for the Nintendo Switch.

All in all, plenty of new titles to be excited about, so let’s have a look at the best games releasing in March 2023.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

An action RPG coming from the makers of Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will have you play as a nameless soldier fighting demons and monsters in a dark fantasy set during China’s Three Kingdoms period.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is all about melee combat, featuring swordfighting based on Chinese martial arts, which unlocks more powerful spirit attacks that include elemental spells.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty releases March 3 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon

This origin story for Bayonetta, aka Cereza, was first hinted at in a secret chapter in Bayonetta 3, and then properly announced during the 2022 Game Awards. Bayonetta Origins is coming just five months after the last big release in the series, so fans of the shape-shifting witch should be more than excited for this prequel companion game.

In Cereza and the Lost Demon, you’ll be playing as a young Bayonetta, before she started wielding her dual pistols, and as she’s just discovering her magical powers. As the title might have suggested, you also play as the Lost Demon, known as Cheshire. You control both characters simultaneously with the Switch’s two joy-con – Cereza with the left, and Cheshire with the right.

The peculiar controls will surely allow for some interesting puzzle-solving and combat challenges, relying on the two characters’ complementary strengths, as you explore a world that feels very different from what we’ve seen in the mainline series.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon releases on March 17 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

WWE 2K23

2K’s pro wrestling series is launching its latest annual release this month, and the WWE 2K23 ratings reveal has already started, offering some surprises.

WWE 2K23 is bringing back Showcase mode featuring this year’s cover star, John Cena, but there’s a twist. Instead of letting you play as the legendary wrestler, this Showcase will pit you against him as you play as some of his toughest opponents, trying to defeat him and relive some of the most notable losses in his career.

MyFaction, WWE 2K’s version of NBA 2K’s MyTeam and EA FIFA’s FUT, is coming back with a new online multiplayer mode that will let you take your faction online and fight for global dominance.

WWE 2K23 is coming on March 17 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

Tchia

Tchia is an exotic open-world action adventure in which you’ll explore a fictional tropical archipelago, heavily inspired by New Caledonia.

The titular player-character must make her way through the island in search of her kidnapped father. Tchia’s main ability of soul jumping will let you possess animals and inanimate objects in the world, using their abilities to solve puzzles, fight off enemies, and reach new areas of the map.

Sony’s latest State of Play showcase revealed that Tchia will be coming as a day-one free release for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers.

Tchia releases March 21 for PS5, PS4, and PC.

Resident Evil 4 remake

One of the best survival horror games, which first came out back in 2005 for the GameCube, is getting a ground-up remake for modern platforms. The original game has received universal acclaim for its graphics, gameplay, characters, and story, and to this day is one of the most influential titles in the genre.

Resident Evil 4’s success spawned a series of ports and remasters for almost every platform imaginable, and the game is oftentimes credited with popularizing the trend of remastering video games to give them new life with improved graphics on new hardware.

The new remake is set to bring not only significant improvements to the game’s visuals and sound, but will also feature modernized gameplay, six optional control schemes, and much fewer quick-time events.

Developer and publisher Capcom has also promised improvements to the game’s narrative and even more elaborate character development, including both subtle and important story changes, some of which might surprise fans who have played the original game.

MLB The Show 23

MLB The Show 23 will be the 18th video game in Sony’s baseball sim franchise. This year, it features Miami Marlins’ Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the main cover, while The Captain Editon of the game will have retired Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter.

The first season of Storylines is focused on the Negro Leagues, presenting eight players and their stories in an interactive experience that mixes informational videos and gameplay.
