Marc Jacobs felt nervous about Devil Wears Prada cameo

Marc Jacobs has a guest role on The Devil Wears Prada 2

Marc Jacobs was "a little nervous" to appear in the Devil Wears Prada 2.

The 63-year-old actor makes a brief appearance in the long-awaited fashion comedy sequel as himself and admitted it was "so exciting" to share a scene with Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, a character modelled on his own friend, Anna Wintour.

He told The Sunday Times' Style magazine: “I was so happy to be asked to be in it, and then a little nervous on the day.

“The idea of being in a scene with Meryl Streep was so exciting! She is such a pro.”

Marc's own love of the glitz and glamour of fashion began at a young age when his talent agent father - who passed away when the designer was just seven years old - took him to see Barbra Streisand in 1969 movie Hello, Dolly!.

He said: “I think it all began with Hello, Dolly!

I remember thinking, this is it. It was the gowns, the sequins, the feathers in her hair. I connected with it in such a huge way and that has always stayed with me.”

The designer revived his Marc Jacobs Beauty line earlier this month, with the ideas for the collection stemming back to a time he and husband Charly Defrancesco relocated to a hotel during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said: “I decided that I was going to do my make-up and play with different eyeshadows. I loved being in a room with a lot of clothes and some make-up and a terrace, the dogs.

"I sort of loved lockdown. I didn’t bake banana bread but I did just about everything else.”

The couple have moved out of Manhattan to the coastal town of Rye and Marc loves the quieter life.

He said: “We have groundhogs, there are deer all the time and I like to feed the chipmunks.

"But I’m not going to sit here and tell you that as soon as I leave the city I can breathe and that, you know, my imagination runs wild. It’s not that cliché, but I do own a pair of binoculars.

“It’s great when my husband is around but I do love to be alone.

“I like getting up, having my coffee, feeding the fish, washing my hair and putting a brow tamer on, whatever it is. There’s a certain peace to that time. I suppose you could say the ritual of beauty is my safe space, it’s good for me.

"As soon as I leave that bathroom I’m like, oh s***, now the world’s going to come at me.”
