Marathon seasonal resets, explained

Wipes are an essential feature in most extraction shooters. In Marathon, wipes come in the form of seasonal resets, creating a level playing field for all Runners to jump into the new content and explore new metas.

Here’s everything you need to know about seasonal resets in Marathon, how often they take place, and what progress gets wiped.

Wipes in Marathon take place every season, and every season lasts around three months. For example, Season 1 runs from March until May, and the following season runs from June to August. This gives you a decent amount of time to explore the season if you decide to commit.

However, if you take a prolonged break from the game at any point, you might come back to find all of your progress gone. It’s always a good idea to time your return to the game (or if you’re jumping in for the first time) with the beginning of the new season.

Everything that you lose and keep after seasonal reset in Marathon

Throughout the season, you level up factions, accessing better gear in the Armory and increasing your baseline strength. This makes every subsequent run a little bit easier, as your favorite loadouts become more accessible. At the same time, closer to the end of the season, you get to put all your loot to use, as everyone will shortly be starting fresh.

Here’s everything that you lose after the seasonal reset:

  • Player level
  • Faction level
  • Contract progression
  • Gear

Here’s everything that you keep after the seasonal reset:

  • Achievements
  • Cosmetics
  • Titles
  • Codex progression
  • Liaison contract progression

Most of your progress gets reset at the end of the season, including your loot, faction upgrades, and everything else that affects gameplay. The only exception is the liaison contract progression, which simply means you won’t have to complete introductory contracts that unlock factions again.

The main things that carry over from season to season are your milestone rewards and cosmetics. All the achievements, emblems, titles, and backgrounds are yours to keep and show off. These are also likely to be the main rewards for you to chase throughout the season, similar to emblems and titles from Bungie’s other title, Destiny 2.
