A Nottinghamshire couple unsure whether to renovate their home or sell up appear on Channel 4's property series Love It or List It. The programme, presented by Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer, features couples as they debate whether to renovate their existing property or start afresh in a new home.
In the latest episode, Mapperley couple Sue and Richard weigh up the pros and cons of renovating their current home - where they have lived for almost 30 years - or moving on to pastures new. The pair face a particularly tough decision as Richard continues his recovery from a stroke he suffered two years ago.
Richard’s stroke came soon after a cycling accident, costing him his speech and leaving him with lasting mobility issues. As a result, he and wife Sue must consider whether they should move to a new home with fewer steps or renovate their existing property to make it more accessible for him.

In particular, Richard hopes to find a bungalow or dormer bungalow with an open-plan layout and a downstairs bathroom. Sue, meanwhile, is deeply attached to the couple’s spacious current home in Mapperley, which also offers impressive views over Nottingham.
The couple are also bound to Mapperley by family ties, which is another crucial factor in their decision-making. Sue’s elderly mother lives locally, as do their two sons, with a new grandchild also on the way for Sue and Richard.
With a £50,000 renovation budget at Sue and Richard’s disposal, Kirstie Allsopp hopes to persuade the pair to stay put. But Phil Spencer does his very best to tempt them to move to a new home, aiming to prove to them that the grass really is greener on the other side.
Sue and Richard’s property search takes in an open-plan bungalow in nearby Burton Joyce, Gedling, valued at £435,000. They also take a look at another bungalow in the Derbyshire village of Breaston, in need of some modernisation but valued at £425,000, and a fully-modernised, three-bed bungalow with a self-contained annex - priced at £595,000 - in Ruddington.
Tonight’s (January 25) episode of Kirstie and Phil’s Love It or List It airs Channel 4 at 8pm. The programme is already available to view on catch-up via All 4.
