Map shows every road affected by new 20mph speed limit in Wales

An interactive map shows every part of Wales that will be subject to the Welsh Government's new 20mph speed limit law.

The decision to make 20mph the ‘default national position in residential areas' in Wales was made in July, 2022, by the Senedd, and the law will come into force on September 17, 2023. The Welsh Government argues this will be beneficial as it claims it will reduce pollution and the number of serious crashes on the roads.

A government report has said reducing the speed limit on Welsh roads to 20mph will have minimal impact on journey times, though the Welsh Government's own analysis has said there could be an impact on the economy.

Most roads in Wales which were formerly 30mph will now be 20mph under the new laws. The interactive map below shows every single road which will be 20mph in Wales. If you move around the map you can find where you live. If you are having trouble using it we have put some images of major cities at the bottom. To make it work you will need to click the layers button in the top left corner, then select the '20mph roads' button, and finally tick the 'eye' symbol on that tab - the roads which are 20mph should show up on the map marked orange.

A Senedd petition titled, "Stop the change of speed limits to 20mph on 17th September" has now been signed by more than 21,000 people. This means it will be discussed in the Senedd.

These images show some of the areas of Wales affected by the new speed limit (the data isn't available for some areas):
