Photos show a huge fire that's engulfed a derelict mill in Mansfield. As many as 20 fire engines were called out to the fire which has ripped through Hermitage Mill in Hermitage Lane.
Hermitage Lane is closed in both directions due to the incident between the A38 Sutton Road and Hamilton Way. People in the area have been told to keep windows and doors closed.
Incident commander Bryn Coleman, of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said crews from across the county were called to the fire at 3am on Monday, March 28. He said the fire had been contained but that the road closure was having an affect on local businesses. But he added the Robin Hood Railway Line, which runs from Nottingham to Worksop, remained open.

He said: "We've had 20 fire appliances from across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire in attendance, plus a high volume pump from South Yorkshire and two aerial ladder platforms. As you can see behind me now, the fire has been contained, it has been surrounded.
"There's still an impact to the wider community at this moment in time, particularly around the Hermitage Lane area. Fortunately the Robin Hood Railway Line, which runs adjacent to this building, has still remained open. We're working currently with our partners, with Nottinghamshire Police, to try and get the remaining businesses in the area open because we're aware of the impact on the businesses of the closures."
Parts of the mill have collapsed. Earlier, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said; "With 20 fire engines on scene and two aerial ladder platforms, the fire on Hermitage Lane, Mansfield, is being brought under control. Four main hose reel jets used and fire tackled from the outside due to collapsing parts of the building."

Police who are also in attendance have advised drivers to plan alternative routes. Chief Inspector Paul Hennessy, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We would please ask drivers and the public to stay away from the area while emergency services deal with this large-scale incident and to plan alternate routes while we have roads closed in the surrounding areas.
"Residents are advised to keep all doors and windows shut in the area, at this time there are no plans to evacuate any local residents.” Google Maps indicated heavy, slow moving traffic on Hermitage Lane next to Hermitage Mill, Mansfield Doggy Day Care and Cash & Carry Windows during the early hours of Monday (March 28).
