Manhunt underway as murder detectives search for killer after man found dead near Salford park

Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a man was killed in a suspected stabbing in Salford. Police were alerted by paramedics to the fatal attack, which happened near Clarendon Park, off Liverpool Street in the city.

The man, whose age has not been revealed, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers were called just after midnight. No-arrests have been made.

A senior officer has described the killing as an 'isolated incident' and said there is 'no wider risk to the public'. Residents woke up to find a huge cordon within the park.

Forensics officers worked at the scene, combing the area for clues and taking pictures of evidence they had recovered. Detectives were also at the scene making enquiries.

People living nearby said there have been problems with drug dealing in the alleyways near where the tents are located. They were unsure about what had occurred, but feared the worst after noticing a tent had been erected.

In a statement, GMP said: "Shortly after 12am this morning (Tuesday 27 December), GMP were called by colleagues in the ambulance service to a report of a man with serious injuries that appear to be consistent with a stab wound near Clarendon Park in Salford. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial enquiries are underway and no arrests have yet been made."

Detective Superintendent Natalie Dalby, Senior Investigating Officer in the case, said: "We will continue to investigate what we believe to be an isolated incident, with no wider risk to the public. These are the very early stages of what is now a murder investigation, and a team of detectives are working tirelessly to piece together information and evidence.

"We will be following-up a number of different lines of enquiry we have to ensure those responsible are brought to justice. Officers from the Salford district will be providing a visible presence in the coming days for reassurance and we would like to thank the local community for their cooperation and patience so far."
