Manhattan Prosecutors Reject Trump's Request For Trial Delay

Donald Trump looks Confident.

Manhattan prosecutors have stated that fewer than 270 documents recently handed over to Donald Trump by federal authorities are deemed new and relevant to the ongoing criminal case involving hush money payments. They have asserted that no further delay to the trial is necessary.

The prosecutors from the Manhattan district attorney’s office have informed the judge that no sanctions are warranted in this case. They have placed the blame on Trump’s legal team for the delayed disclosure of records from the US attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York.

Trump had requested Judge Juan Merchan to dismiss the indictment and postpone the trial for 90 days. He alleged that prosecutors had withheld information related to the federal prosecution of Michael Cohen, Trump’s former fixer and a crucial witness for the state.

In a series of filings made on Thursday, the district attorney’s office accused Trump’s lawyers of making baseless discovery arguments in an attempt to avoid accountability for the conduct outlined in the indictment.

The district attorney's office further stated, “Defense counsel has likewise stretched the boundaries of zealous advocacy in this case.” They described Trump's motion and subsequent filings as a clear effort to divert attention from his own criminal behavior by seeking remedies that he is not entitled to, such as dismissal, a lengthy adjournment, and preclusion of evidence.
