Manchester United youngster leaves the club after scholarship offer

Manchester United youngster Dan Polakowski has left the club after he was offered a scholarship in the USA earlier in the year.

Polakowski, 18, received an offer of a full scholarship at Manhattan College with his United contract set to run out this summer.

The Polish shot-stopper has spent two years at United after being named in the 2020 scholarship intake at the club, but has struggled to make the grade at U18s level.

Polakowski was named in match day squads this season but found himself used as a back-up option to Tom Wooster and Eric Hanbury. Radek Vitek was chosen as the 'keeper during the club's successful Youth Cup run.

The teenager will now look to progress with his career in America and, speaking earlier in the year, United's head of academy Nick Cox wished him all the best ahead of his exit.

"We are all really proud of Dan's achievements on and off the pitch," Cox told club media.

"Throughout the academy we strive to improve the lives of each and every one of the boys and encourage them to reach their full potential.

"For some, their journey with us will lead them to a first team debut at Manchester United. For others it may look different, whether that is playing professional or part-time football elsewhere, the start of a successful career or further education.

"As an academy, we put significant focus on holistic development to ensure that the boys have a fantastic experience and a wide range of skillsets. Everyone is delighted for Dan and look forward to following the next step of his journey over in America."
