Manchester United XI vs Liverpool: Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Premier League

Michael Carrick hands an immediate recall to Matheus Cunha as Manchester United take on Liverpool this afternoon.

Cunha missed Man Utd’s 2-1 win over Brentford on Monday night due to a sore hip flexor, but took part in training on Thursday and may be available for selection.

Speaking on Friday, though, Carrick simply said he was optimistic Cunha could feature, refusing to confirm whether he would be available.

If passed fit and selected to start at Old Trafford, the Brazilian could replace Amad Diallo on the left-hand side of Man Utd’s attacking midfield trio behind Benjamin Sesko.

That said, United did have joy playing without a recognised striker in the reverse fixture against Liverpool earlier in the season, so Cunha could be an option through the middle.

Elsewhere, Luke Shaw features after being forced off against Brentford.

Matthijs de Ligt remains sidelined with a back issue and Lisandro Martinez serves the last of a three-match suspension for his red card against Leeds.

Leny Yoro, returned from injury as a second half substitute against the Bees but cannot unseat youngster Ayden Heaven as Harry Maguire’s central defensive partner.

Kobbie Mainoo makes his first appearance since signing a new contract, partnering Casemiro in central midfield.

Bruno Fernandes is set to captain the side as he bids to equal the Premier League assists record which is currently jointly-held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne (20).

Man Utd XI: Lammens; Shaw, Heaven, Maguire, Dalot, Casemiro, Mainoo, Fernandes, Mbeumo, Cunha, Sesko
