Manchester United vs Newcastle predictions for the Premier League clash

Fifth meets sixth when Manchester United host Newcastle United in what has the potential to be quite an informative Premier League fixture at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Erik ten Hag's side sit third (behind Man City and Arsenal) in the Premier League form table having won five of their last six Premier League matches and there was a lot to like about the way they came from behind to win at Goodison Park on Sunday night, not least the performance of Casemiro, who was making his first start.

The Reds, who haven't played a home Premier League game in well over a month, are even money favourites with Betfred to continue their good run of form against Newcastle, who are 11/4 to win their third away game of the season.

And there will be plenty of punters willing to take that 11/4 because Newcastle would be undefeated on their travels this season were it not for that injury time Fabio Carvalho winner at Anfield at the end of August.

Eddie Howe's side have scored ten goals in their three fixtures since the 0-0 draw at home to Crystal Palace and last weekend they became the first side to put five past Brentford since Norwich City did so in 2016.

And goals have been the order of the day in this fixture in recent years, with the last five meetings between these sides at Old Trafford producing four or more goals. Over 3.5 goal is a 13/8 chance with Betfred this time around.

United's finishing will need to be a lot better than it was against Omonia Nicosia on Thursday night, but goals haven't been a problem for the Reds in the league - they even scored three in the battering at City.

Manchester United haven't kept a clean sheet in their last four and Newcastle have only kept one all season so it's no surprise that the BTTS (yes) play is as tight as 4/7.

Creating chances has not been a problem for Newcastle recently, indeed they have generated an xGF of 2.0 or greater in each of their last four games, so it will be a surprise if they don't cause problems for a United side that once again look set to be without Raphael Varane, who has become such an important defensive figure.

However, United have already dismissed Liverpool and Arsenal at Old Trafford this season, so even if this does turn into a shoot-out, they should still have enough quality to come out on top. Back the hosts to win and over 3.5 goals, which is a 19/5 chance.
