Manchester United vs Leicester City LIVE: Premier League result, final score and reaction

Old Trafford, home of Manchester United Football Club - (Getty Images)

Follow live coverage as Manchester United face Leicester City today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Manchester United vs Leicester City

Ruud van Nistelrooy's interim spell ends with Manchester United recording a commanding 3-0 victory over Leicester City. Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring in the 18th minute at Old Trafford, while his header deflected in off Victor Kristiansen 20 minutes later. The hosts had an xG of just 0.70 compared to their opponents' 0.77, but wrapped up the victory eight minutes from time, when substitute Alejandro Garnacho superbly curled home from 20 yards. Both sides remain 13th and 15th in the table respectively, but United have closed the gap on the teams above. They begin life under Ruben Amorim away at Ipswich Town on November 24, the day after Leicester host Chelsea at the King Power Stadium. Thanks for joining us today. Until next time, goodbye!

Manchester United vs Leicester City

United are unbeaten in each of their last 18 Premier League matches against promoted sides (winning 16). Ironically, their last such defeat came against Watford in November 2021, and what was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's final game in charge.

Manchester United vs Leicester City

15:12

Leicester play the free-kick short to Kristiansen to change the angle. However, his delivery into the box is not the best, and United easily deal with it.

Manchester United vs Leicester City

15:09

Fatawu is blocked off by Casemiro and Leicester have a free-kick out on the left wing. This is an opportunity for the Foxes to test the United defence early in the second half.

Manchester United vs Leicester City

14:30

Spotting Onana off his line, Fatawu goes for the spectacular from just inside his own half. His ambitious attempt is near enough on target, but the United goalkeeper is able to comfortably chest the ball down.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils' total of nine goals thus far is their lowest at this stage of a league season since 1973-74, when they were relegated from the top flight.

Manchester United vs Leicester City

14:12

United's tally of 12 points is their lowest after 10 top-flight games in a season since recording just eight at this stage of the 1986-87 campaign. Ironically, that was the season in which Alex Ferguson took charge at Old Trafford. That didn't work out too badly for the club.

Manchester United vs Leicester City

14:05

Hermansen's loose clearance invites pressure on the Leicester defence. However, the visitors have enough numbers back to eventually snuff out the threat.
