Manchester United transfer plans dealt a 'blow' by Barcelona and more transfer rumours

Manchester United will reportedly continue to monitor Ronald Araujo's situation at Barcelona despite the fact they expect his current club to resume contract talks in the near future.

The defender has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as he approaches the final year of his deal at Camp Nou, with attempts from the Catalan giants to tie him down to a longer contract so far proving fruitless.

Recent reports suggest United have tabled a ‘bumper proposal’ in order to try and sign Araujo.

And Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness ) now report that the Uruguay international’s contract renewal at Barca has been ‘paused’.

United are said to be ‘crazy’ about signing the 22-year-old, who has become a key figure in Barcelona’s side over the past couple of years.

Araujo’s representatives are claimed to be ‘listening to offers’, although his camp also expect Barca to offer him an improved deal.

The defender is said to be happy at Camp Nou and intends to remain with Barcelona.

Should the La Liga giants fail to reach an agreement with Araujo, United are preparing to lure him to Old Trafford.

Elsewhere, Brazilian club Botafogo have reportedly entered initial talks with Edinson Cavani’s representatives over a summer move.

Cavani is expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, with the Uruguay international reaching the end of his contract with United.

Botafogo owner John Textor has recently confirmed he’d like to sign the striker, who will be available as a free agent during the summer.

According to Lance, the Brazilian side are already putting plans in place as they look to sign the United forward.

The report claims talks are still in their early stages, with the Rio de Janeiro club looking to show they’re in the running for Cavani’s signature.
