Earlier this month, the Manchester Evening News reported that the 20-time champions were weighing up a move for De Jong ahead of a potential reunion with former manager Erik ten Hag.
After their dismal 2021-22 campaign, United's midfield has been just one of the positions that have faced criticism. The Reds are eager to add to their midfield ranks in the summer with Rice and the Dutchman among the targets as Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, and Jesse Lingard all look set to depart on free transfers.
