Manchester United are being linked with a move for midfielder Davide Frattesi.
The Italian plays for Sassuolo and has been one of the standout stars in Serie A this season, hitting four goals so far.
The 23-year-old also forced his way into Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad and won four caps but will not be at the World Cup after the European champions failed to qualify for the tournament in Qatar.
Now, a report from Il Resto del Carlino say that United are looking at Frattesi as a potential upgrade on Scott McTominay or Fred. He is seen as an ideal player who will increase the quality of options in central midfield available to Erik ten Hag.

Additionally, the report names Tottenham as a side likely to rival United for Frattesi's signature.
Meanwhile, United could also face stiff competition for another Italian-based midfielder. They have long been linked with a move for Lazio's Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who has become one of the top performers in Serie A over the past few years.
According to Calciomercato, Chelsea are now exploring a deal to sign him next summer. It adds that instead of a cash deal, the Blues could offer a swap arrangement with Ruben Loftus-Cheek touted as the player who could be used as a makeweight. Milinkovic-Savic has a contract at Lazio that runs until 2024.
