Manchester United takeover latest as Beckham hint dropped and Neville makes Glazers plea

After the Glazers made the massive statement last Tuesday that they were open to selling Manchester United things have gone a little quiet. A number of potential buyers were named in the days following but since then the club has seemingly stuck to its word that it would not comment again on the matter until there was progress.

However, in the meantime, a number of ex-players, pundits, and people involved in the game have had their say on the future of United. This includes who they want to buy the club, how they want the sale to be conducted, and what the future holds for the fans.

In terms of potential buyers, Rio Ferdinand seemed to hint on his Vibe with Five Youtube channel that David Beckham could be involved in the bidding as part of a consortium.

Ferdinand stated: “When you mention someone like Becks’ name, he’s obviously a part-owner of Inter Miami, but he doesn’t come on his own. It’s not his money. It’s not him in terms of putting his hand in his pocket.

“He comes with a consortium. He comes with people who do have deep pockets who have the ability to go and execute on a deal like that. So that’s the way he’ll be approaching it, and rightly so. I just think it’s going to come down to a number. If you’ve got the number, and you can produce, that’s what it’s going to be about.”

Moving away from the new owners, Beckham and Ferdinand's former teammate Gary Neville had his say on how he believed the Glazers should conduct the sale, saying they must engage with the fans to find the 'right' owners.

He told Sky Sports: "It's a big moment now. The Glazer family will never get a great exit from Manchester United, but they could have a more pleasant exit if they do it right.

"Over the next couple of months, I'd like to see them engage properly with the fans about who is going to take over the club."

Finally, in an interview with Sky News, former FA chairman Greg Dyke took aim at the Glazer Family and their lack of investment into United; something fans have been complaining about for a long time.

He said: "There is no doubt the money has not been invested. Old Trafford used to be a ground ahead of its time, it's no longer like that. The training ground is no longer like that, the world catches up and you have to spend capital and they haven't spent it, they've taken the money out."
