Manchester United 'suffer Harry Kane contract blow' and other transfer rumours

Manchester United have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Harry Kane with the striker open to signing a new deal at Tottenham, according to the Athletic.

United have been monitoring Kane's situation, with the 29-year-old entering the final 18 months of his contract with Spurs. The Reds have been long-time admirers of the England international and look set to go big on a striker in the summer, knowing that Daniel Levy could be persuaded to sell his talisman should a new deal collapse.

Kane tried to force a move to Manchester City back in 2021, and no talks between himself and the club have occurred since. But the report now suggests he would be open to signing a new deal at Spurs, his main wish being to win trophies with his boyhood club.

There is no suggestion that an extension is guaranteed, however, with Kane reportedly needing to see a level of investment in the squad that reflects his personal ambitions. The North London club are still in both the FA Cup and Champions League, but sit six points off United in fourth place and could miss out on qualification for next season's flagship European competition.

A move to Old Trafford looks to make the most sense, given all of City, Arsenal and Liverpool have recently recruited long-term options upfront. Erik Ten Hag's side secured a half-season loan for Wout Weghorst earlier this month, although the 30-year-old is expected to be a stop-gap to bigger investment come summer.

Elsewhere, United have made an approach to sign Monaco defender Axel Disasi, according to French outlet Telefoot.

Disasi has been one of Monaco's standout players this season as they fight for a Champions League place. The defender has played 19 times in Ligue 1, even managing to register two goals and three assists from the back. Such domestic form earned the 24-year-old a call-up for the France squad for the World Cup, with Didier Deschamps playing him three times at right-back.

Any interest will likely be met with resistance however, with Phillipe Clement's side already selling one star defender in Benoit Badiashile this month - joining Chelsea for around £35million. Bayern Munich are also said to have made Disasi a 'priority target' either this month or in the summer.
