Manchester United striker Anthony Martial ruled out of FA Cup final through injury

Anthony Martial has been ruled out of the FA Cup final with a hamstring injury. The Manchester United forward has missed 32 matches this season through a number of different setbacks.

His latest issue was picked up in the latter stages of United's 2-1 final day win over Fulham on Sunday. The Frenchman strained his hamstring with later assessments showing a tear in the muscle.

The striker has played 29 times this season but has failed to see out a full 90 minutes. United are after a new striker this summer and the club are open to allowing Martial to leave with exits needed to facilitate arrivals.

The 27-year-old played 85 minutes of United’s semi-final win over Brighton before being replaced by Jadon Sancho. He has nine goals and three assists this season, averaging a goal contribution every 120 minutes - or 1.3 games.

Martial joins Marcel Sabitzer, Donny van de Beek and Lisandro Martinez on the list of sidelined players. Erik ten Hag is more optimistic Antony will be available following his ankle injury suffered in Thursday’s 4-1 win over Chelsea.

Speaking about the Brazilian on Sunday, the United boss told club media: “We've all seen how he came off and didn't look great. But the first assessment is not too bad and a good opportunity he is available for the Cup final next week."

Meanwhile, Van de Beek was spotted completing ball drills in training on Monday as he continues his recovery from having surgery on a season-ending knee injury sustained against Bournemouth on January 3.

Ten Hag expects Martinez back at Carrington this week to carry on his rehabilitation from his metatarsal fracture suffered against Sevilla on April 13.

Sabitzer is not due back from his knee injury before the end of his loan spell from Bayern Munich with no decision yet made regarding a permanent transfer.
